About Us
PNP Railways – Precision Engineering for Model Engineering
PNP Railways was founded to meet the demand for high-quality, time-saving products that bring exceptional value to model engineers.
Established by Paul Norman, a lifelong model engineering enthusiast, PNP Railways combines decades of engineering and plastic injection moulding expertise to deliver reliable, ready-to-use components that elevate the miniature railway experience. From track essentials to braking systems, PNP Railways provides the tools to progress your project with precision, efficiency, and ease.
Meet the Founder: Paul Norman
A Lifelong Passion for Model Engineering

Paul Norman, the visionary behind PNP Railways, has transformed his lifelong love for mechanics and model engineering into a respected name in the industry. His journey began young, tinkering with projects from box trolleys and bicycles to models of boats, planes, and trains, each one deepening his fascination with engineering.
Early Inspiration: Miniature Railways and Toolmaking

Paul grew up in Croydon and, through a friend of his father, found out about a raised 5" 3½" gauge track on a disused tennis court, where small, powerful models could pull impressive loads. This unique and magical opportunity to drive these miniature trains set the foundation for a lifelong passion for engineering.
After attending grammar school, which was not really for him, Paul left school early to pursue a five-year toolmaking apprenticeship at Croydon Tech (now University), which included additional endorsements.
Finding a Community: The Beginnings of Stroud Society of Model Engineers

In the early 1970s, Paul moved to Stroud, where he became a founding member of the Stroud Society of Model Engineers. The group was established in April 1972 after a notice in the local paper gathered 10 enthusiasts for their first meeting. By July, the group had raised enough funds to purchase a portable 3.5" gauge track for local events, further building support for a permanent track.
In 1976, their hard work paid off when Stroud District Council offered a site in Stratford Park, marking a milestone in the society's development. The Stroud Society of Model Engineers remains active today and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, a tribute to the early efforts of its founders.

From Toolmaker to Entrepreneur: The Launch of Paul Norman Plastics Ltd

Paul's technical training paved the way for a successful engineering career, with a specialisation in toolmaking and special-purpose machinery.

In 1983, he launched Paul Norman Plastics Ltd., a plastic injection moulding business that would later be instrumental in his entry into producing component parts for the model engineering fraternity.
The Birth of PNP Railways: Transforming Miniature Railway Engineering

In the late 1990s, Paul combined his engineering skills and model railway passion to create PNP Railways.
The company's first product, a vacuum brake actuator kit, addressed the need for scalable vacuum brakes and brought his moulding expertise to a wider audience.
By acquiring the design rights and optimising the product with moulded parts, PNP Railways made fitting vacuum brakes much easier and more affordable for model engineers.
Growing the PNP Railways Product Line

Building on the success of the brake actuator, Paul expanded PNP Railways to offer a range of products tailored to the needs of model engineers.
The range soon included brake kits, vacuum reservoirs, brake blocks, vacuum hoses, plastic sleepers, rail fixings, and more. Each item was designed with efficiency in mind, saving enthusiasts time and ensuring high-quality performance.
A Comprehensive Solution for Model Railway Enthusiasts

Today, PNP Railways offers an impressive array of products, from complete vacuum braking systems to track-laying supplies and parts for rolling stock and locomotives. Paul's dedication to quality has made PNP Railways a trusted name for model railway enthusiasts across the UK and beyond.
A Lasting Legacy
Paul's career reflects a lifetime of innovation, commitment, and craftsmanship, making him a well-loved figure among enthusiasts.
